iPhone-Specific Good Design Patterns

An iphone with user interface is more important while developing a design pattern, so what the UI designers should have in mind? He or she should have users in their thoughts, before they start. There are many design patterns available in the market that they come across each day to give you an intuitive design. Here I'm going to just show you some desingn patterns which are more interesting to handle by any UI designer. A design pattern with more innovation and interactive specifications would attract the end user, but to provide a user-friendly design pattern on the very first time is a great achievement indeed. Check out here for the same.

#1 Walkthroughs:

Walkthroughs are UI design which help users to find a step-by-step action to complete the required task. As said so, it will guide users to perform a process from the very beginning to the end.

What to be concerned?
  • Small steps to accomplish the task quick
  • Excellent Guidance for the user to move in an easy way
  • Explain the actions before guiding users step-by-step to accomplish a task.
On the other hand we have Invitations, which is more similar to Walkthroughs. This guides the users when they are using the application for the first time. So this turns a user experience from dissatisfied to satisfied.

#2 Table View:

An important application used to list contacts or search results. This table view pattern can be user-friendly and while searching for an info over the iphone user will feel more comfortable. To switch over the user will be provided with the tabs at the end of the screen.

What to be concerned?
  • An easy navigation.
  • User-friendly list down

#3 One window Drilldown:

This Application is used to show a list or menu containing items such as mailbox, conversions, IM chats, images or article. This  help users to get  their information on the same page when they click on an item in the list.

What to be concerned?
  • An informative list
  • Space on the mobile panel

#4 Tab Bar Controller:

This helps the user to view multiple page content on a slide move of the screen.
Tab Bar is the main controller for navigational pivot. Tap-access to switch between the move been considered only upto 5 main featurers. In the additional requirement, you can can use a UI of more or eclipse option.

What to be concerned?
  • Easy Switch over without losing their entire navigation between multiple screens.
#5 PopOver:

Termed in other words as Popover,  an application which describes the user with the functions of an application. This Popover can be displayed on any screen, optionally to provide or view additional Popovers, like Next buttons or share buttons etc.,

What to be Concernced?
  • Popovers tend them to discover things with how to? Rather than learning. It should be useful that the user find more options to be functional.
  • Providing a way with disabling and enabling option would be good, so that they won't felt any inconvenience.
#6 Browser:

The simplest browser pattern for iPhone helps people browse the entire mobile web with ease. Using the top navigation bar, it is easy to provide optimal screen space to web content. Also, it is obviously possible to change the orientation of the web page whenever the position of the iPhone changes. The lower navigation bar controls simple navigation options and assists in opening multiple browsers at the same time.

What to be Concerned?
  • Consider the optimal screen space, so that the user can browse the entire web page.

Conclusion:
I have pointed out only a very few, which I found the most important to be considered for UI design patterns of iPhone, there are a lot of UI found out. This article is intended to beginners and I believe it'll be useful to them.

Top 10 Best Apps for HTC One

HTC One, a strong enemy to Galaxy S4, Xperia Z and iPhone 5, has been released to the much anticipating crowd and received critical praises for its efficiency, design, and performance. As is our nature for a long time now, the moment we get a new gadget the first thing we do these days is to check the apps from the app store and update it as soon as we can. This was something we used to do for Windows PC if you remember. After the OS installation is over, we start the major installation process of drivers and software to make the computer up and running. Now the same applies to smartphones and computer tablets these days.
HTC One comes with a good number of apps already installed for basic uses but then again what will happen to the good old Google Play if we only use the native apps? Play Store gives us over thousands of apps to download from and we can test out the best one out there. Now, there is a minor issue here with HTC One since it does not come with an external storage, so you will have to be careful what kind of apps you would allocate space to and what you would give a miss. Main apps that would most probably get downloaded first will be Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Dropbox/Google Drive, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, and WhatsApp.

But those are very common apps that many will download anyway. Like how we download Mozilla or Chrome browser minutes after Windows installation. What we need to know is what are the best apps worthy to download after installing the basic and common ones.

1. Poweramp: HTC One comes with a newer and better audio technology and now there are dual speakers and inbuilt amp on the front with BoomSound technology that offer fantastic sound quality. The volume levels can be given quite the boost that is unmatched right now. This app is customizable and comes with an equalizer and other features.

2. Astro File Manager: Which one of us does not like to have access to our files in an orderly and organized manner that somehow most smartphones fail to offer? This app satisfies many like us by letting us organize and manage the files on smartphones, tablet, and PC via networking or cloud service.

3. Clean Master: There are days when our smartphones are sluggish due to constant usage by apps via network and the default application manager does not make things any better. Clean Master is one such app that is all in one cleaner to remove all the unnecessary apps and kill running task to improve the performance.

4. Wikipedia: Now a day, we read about the most basic to extensive articles on Wikipedia. This app gives us more information than our books do and is a must if you are one those who depend on Wikipedia a lot.

5. IMDb: Ah, the days when we used to read newspapers to find the latest show or film in the theatres but that was in the days of past. IMDb is the most used website for accessing huge database of movies and it’s increasing each passing day to support other language movies. This one is also one the must have if you are a movie-buff.

6. Pixlr Express: All of us love to edit our photos before uploading them on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. But yeah, Instagram already has its own editing and fixing but Pixlr Express happens to come with a little more features than other apps and it is free.

7. Evernote: This app is making a name for itself for providing one of the best ways to integrate photos, notes, and to-do lists and helps us organize them accordingly. You can take notes in meeting or class, create tasks list, make plans, manage finances, and share or email whenever you need to.

8. Adobe Reader: I am sure there are many apps out there that are better or maybe you are one of those who don’t like to read but Adobe Reader is the most downloaded app. It is also the easies and efficient to use.

9. AfterFocus: We all like to pretend that we are photographers and this little tool helps in boosting that belief. This app makes you photos look like DSLR photo with smart focus and blur effect. It is also very easy to use and has a lot of features to play around with.

10. VLC for Android: This one works exactly like it is supposed to and is much better at times. VideoLabs is still working on this software and it’s still in beta stage but it works amazing already. I just wish that they had better and organized way of viewing the files.

What Is Whatsapp And How Does It Work?

With evolving technology every person wants to know and try the best and latest applications available in App stores. People are becoming technology oriented by every passing day. It’s easier to communicate with others through web rather than calling or visiting them for specific purposes. Whether it’s for professional concerns or to watch a movie or even if you want to hang out with friends, mobile based applications serve the purpose well. One of those applications in market is WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is a free third party application which allows you to communicate with your friends and family, share images, videos and links using network access. It’s simple and easy app that works on androids, Window phones, blackberry and IOS very smoothly.

Now coming to how does it works part. Like many other software, this application is internet based. If you don’t have internet than this app is not for you but fortunately nowadays every mobile network is providing this facility at minimal charges. Anyways, this application once installed creates a user account in the database. After that it accesses the smartphones phonebook and syncs it with its own database making it easier for the user to connect with his/her own contacts those who have accounts on whatsapp.

Charges for this application
Whatsapp, unlike many other social media apps, is free for all. That is one of the reasons that make it popular among the young generation. In fact in all groups of generations having smart phones use this application on regular basis.

Security and Privacy
It has been noticed that WhatsApp does have some security and privacy issues.  The texts send through it are not encrypted so anyone who can trace back the data packets can read the whole text.

Another concern that comes is mind is that the phonebook is copied to whatsapp data server in order to sync the existing WhatsApp users with that respective users list. In this case the contacts information is available on it even of those who are not using the application.

Parental Concern
Kids nowadays are much intelligent and clever than their peers. They tend to hide information from parents and surroundings. Parents cannot keep an eye on them when it comes to such applications as there is no phone record generated. However, there are many spy software in the market that parents can install on their child’s phone to keep a check on them.

How can parents get a spy for WhatsApp?

Parents now have nothing to worry about they can keep an eye on their kid’s activity without making them suspicious of being watched. Many spys are available online for this purpose.

A spy generates a log of every activity executed on the smart phone. You will be able to track your kid anytime and anywhere with or without GPS. You can watch their videos, images, whatsapp SMS, multimedia sharing’s easily.

WhatsApp is an excellent application which I would use without any hesitation.

iPhone App Development on the Roll - Yet Another Stunning Health-related App Unveiled

A recent report says that iPhone apps are declared as the most forward-looking mobile apps compared to Android and Windows apps. Carrying tons of features and new APIs with power-driven tools, iPhone app development is improving by leaps and bounds. iPhone is constantly working on creating ingenious apps for its prestigious customers worldwide, and in fact they have offered quite a lot of scintillating apps with stunning features so far. iPhone development companies never restrict themselves with building just entertainment apps but apps addressing some serious health ailments as well. Today, you have plenty of health-based iPhone apps that address the health problems of numerous patients globally.

Why iPhone apps are beneficial?
Well, the sudden surge in the iPhone app development is a boon to health sectors as it paves way for diagnosing some serious ailments with ease. Just imagine, with an app to detect health ailments like diabetics, blood pressure the process of consulting a doctor and waiting in long queues at the hospitals becomes completely unnecessary. The app can help you diagnose simple ailments like blood pressure, sugar levels to present you with an up-to-date report of your health status. Apart from that you could save a lot of time, energy, and money with the help of these health-related apps. So, in total, iPhone apps for detecting diseases are great options to facilitate patients with regular health updates for their betterment.
What are the different types of health apps developed so far?
Today, you have plenty of health apps developed each and every day. You have apps for cancer, blood pressure, diabetics, workout, calorie counter, diet tracker, cardiograph, etc. The iPhone app development is looming up in the health sector and there is nothing wrong with the surge. The reasons are quite obvious as people show a great deal of interest in utilizing the apps more and more nowadays.

What is the latest app that has joined the bandwagon of health apps?
Placebo effect is the most recent app that is making sensation online. It is indeed a very distinct app compared to other health-related iPhone apps. It is a brave attempt to develop this app; the placebo treatment involves no medicine and treating it can be troublesome as well. In general, patients suffering from behavioral traits often look out for Placebo treatment. Placebo treatment involves non-existent or fake medicines like sugar-pills to motivate the patient suffering from behavioral traits. The Placebo app designed plays a meaty role in motivating and encouraging the affected person to set him free from the changes rising due to behavioral disorders. Treating patients affected with behavioral pattern changes due to smoking, drinking, etc. is a time-consuming task. Apart from that most patients won’t cooperate to the treatment as they are hesitant in contacting medical practitioners. So, the discovery of this ingenious app could tear down the pressure and shyness mounted on them as using this exciting iPhone app provides the necessary solution. As iPhones are compact and sleek they can be transported anywhere. Using them at the time of maximum stress or desperation would be highly beneficial in controlling the own self, especially in places where there are no adequate medical facilities.

Conclusion:
iPhone app development is gathering velocity and exploding like anything. I won’t be wrong if there are more health-related apps developed in the near future. If you have apps for Placebo kind of trivial ailments, obviously you can have more sensible apps that could help diagnose surplus diseases. But, bear in mind, the apps are just tools to identify (diagnose) a symptom or ailment and they can’t be relied upon 100%. Checking the health status using the apps can be good, but contacting the physician for treatment is the better and safe option. So, go for health-related apps to keep your health attributes intact and start living a healthy life.

Best Smartphones Available On The Market

It’s the second quarter of 2013 and already, the market is teeming with a number of outstanding smartphones waiting to be picked up. If you too are looking for owning one of these smart gadgets this year, this is the best time to do so. To make your task easy, here is a list of some of the best smartphones available on the market.

HTC ONE X

HTC ONE X is the first smartphone on this list. It’s a neat gadget that offers a splendid 8MP camera with rapid-fire continuous shooting and simultaneous 1080 HD video recording/imaging. Combined with HTC ImageCHip, you get some of the greatest shots possible irrespective of the light conditions and movement. Talking of audio, this smartphone consists of Beats Audio™, which makes each sound you hear rich and authentic.

The design is minimalist that includes curved glass with 4.7” Gorilla Glass screen and a piano gloss sidewall. You can avail it in two versions viz a 1.5 GHz quad-core or a 1.5 GHz dual-core LTE version. The platform is Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4. Additionally, you get 25 GB of Dropbox space (integrated into HTC Sense) free for 2 years.

iPhone 5

How can any smartphone list be complete without mentioning the latest Apple’s iPhone! This is why iPhone 5 is on this list. The latest offering by Apple has a 4” Retina display along with an extensive range of apps developed specifically for it. It includes Siri – the voice based personal assistant and an 8 MP iSight camera that now lets you do so much more, including taking panoramic photographs. Additionally, the combination of powerful A6 chip and iOS 6 simply enhances its performance and takes it to a new level altogether. And as we all know, an iPhone is a high-end smartphone, so be prepared to cough up a few extra bucks if you are eyeing it.

Sony Xperia Z

Sony Xperia Z is the “best of Sony in a smartphone” or so it claims. This new offering from the XPeria line of devices, consists of a 13 MP HDR video camera, which allows you to take crystal clear photos and videos irrespective of the ambient light. With a 5” screen and a sleek 7.9 mm body, Xperia Z consists of a reflective glass surface, which makes it look elegant and stylish. And although the body is sleek, its tough as metal since its frame is made out of glass fibre polyamide and is dust resistant. However, what I really like about it is the Battery STAMINA Mode, which allows you to improve your standby times as much as 4 times or more.

Also worth mentioning is its water resistance; the official website claims that it has a high waterproof rating as compared to other smartphones in its league! It consists of NFC technology, which means you can easily share and view content on your smartphone with just one click. Exciting isn’t it?

Galaxy S4

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is next on the list. Its bigger, better and more exciting than its predecessor – Galaxy SIII. With a 5” Full HD Super AMOLED display, the S4 consists of a whopping 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor (or you can opt for a 1.6 GHz Octa-Core Processor) and has Android 4.2.2 operating system. Also, looks like Samsung has worked on the camera features since it consists of 13 MP auto focus (zero shutter lag) rear camera and a 2 MP front facing one (full HD, zero shutter Lag), with numerous camera features, which includes but are not limited to Panorama, HDR, Sports, Night, Animated Photo and 360 Photo!

As expected, it comes with variety of Google Mobile services but what surprises is its sensors, which consist of –accelerometer, RGB light, Geomagnetic, Barometer, Temperature and Humidity to name a few. Also, there is a feature called Air View, wherein you just need to point to the screen without touching the glass and you will instantly get a pop-up view of something. Samsung fanatics, the S4 is what you must own this quarter.

Nokia Lumia 920

Touted as the “most innovative Lumia”, Nokia’s Lumia 920 does offer many new features and functionalities to its users. It consists of a colorful unibody design packed, Carl Zeiss lens with PureView technology and a 4.5” PureMOtion HD+ display. Also, with its HERE City lens, you can discover the city around you simply by looking at your camera’s viewfinder.

The best part however, is the wireless charging for which Nokia offers an entire range of Qi-compatible chargers to opt from.

Blackberry Q10

If touchscreen smartphones are not your cup of tea, then you have an answer in Blackberry Q10 – the latest offering by RIM. Although it is a bit expensive than Samsung, HTC and wait for it…the iPhone 5, it is worth buying for its specifications.

Although there is not much difference in the looks department, the curved keyboard now gives way to a new straightened one and the metallic frets that once separated the rows of characters are now slightly raised. This means you can work your way around the keypad easily now. That’s about it. If you are looking to upgrade an already existing Blackberry device, the Q10 is a safe bet.

To conclude
So, these are some of the best smartphones that you can avail. If you are still not sure which one to opt for, I suggest you go to the nearest mobile store, see them and if they fit the bill, take a call to action. Happy buying!

Top 10 Must Have Android Finance Apps 2013

There is a reason why a smartphone is called so; it is due to its ability to help its owners manage almost everything under the sun with a few taps. This holds true when it comes to managing personal finances as well. Talking about Android smartphones in particular, here are some of the top finance apps, which you can use. Let’s go through them to get a better idea.
1. EasyMoney: The name of the app looks inviting and so are its features and functionalities. This is a robust app for managing your personal finances, which allows you to track everything right from overall fincnces, transactions, expenses, pending bills or due payments. Additionally, it runs reports on your expenses and helps you plan your monthly budgets under specific categories. Available in both free and paid versions, the app is totally worth having on your smartphone.

2. iWallet: This free app is quite simple as compared to other apps on this list. However, its simplicity is what makes it special as it quite useful for those of you, who have never used a finance app before on your mobile. Use it to add your income and expenses, track the transactions made and manage budgets. Also, you can use it to manage your budget by examining your spending and savings via graphs and charts.

3. Mint: Mint has been at the top of finance apps for quite a while and why not? It is one of the best finance apps to use for budgeting. You can manually add your transactions and even refresh a bank account and tweak your budgets. Personally, I feel that it is a great app to manage your finances on the go. The only thing is that you may be redirected to the website for certain things. Still, I would say its worth a try.

4. PageOnce: Here comes another free finance management tool. PageOnce can not only help you pay your bills through the phone but also allows you to closely track your finances and expenses. The best part of this app is an attractive interface, when you want to see reports related to your finances. However, if you are looking for a tool that extensively manages your budgets as well, this is not the app for you.

5. MoneyLover: This free app acts like your financial calendar. It automatically updates your finances, including the little details, which you may overlook. It also alerts you about your debits and transactions and gives a concise report from various financial data such as salaries, sales etc.

6. PocketFinance: This free app helps you customize and prioritize your finance to the very last detail. Use it and manage multiple accounts, manage your income and expenses, add your location, get summary of your account and sort your finance just the way you want. Also, this app supports more than one currency, making it useful for those who deal with foreign transactions.

7. Toshl Finance: This fun-sounding app features some interesting characters, who encourage you to manage your expenses and savings wisely. Also, the app focuses on budgeting and allows you to organize, tag and add your expenses and shows your progress. However, it may not be your cup of tea if you want a plain, no-nonsense app that sticks to managing your personal finance. Hence, it is advisable that you try out the free version before going for the Pro.

8. Financisto: This app helps you manage your loans in addition to organizing your finances. Use it to closely monitor all your existing loans by adding the exact details of your loan, interest rates, installment dates et al. Also, the app allows you to convert currencies and organize your transactions when you are on foreign soil. Quite handy, isn’t it?

9. Nickel  Tracker: This app is basically for home finance management. So, if you are a home maker or if you are the one who has to run the househols, install this app on your phone. The app allows you set limits on your weekly and monthly expenses and will warn or alert you when you are about to approach or overstep this limit. Easy but effective.

10. Expensify: As the name suggests, Expensify helps you to check your expenses and manage them. One of the features, which I want to highlight here, is the synchronization of this app with your debit and credit cards. This helps in keeping track of all your real-time transactions and generates a PDF file of all the transactions made, helping you know your financial status at one glance.

To Conclude
These are some of the top ten Android finance apps that I have brought forth. However, since everyone has different financial aspects, not all these apps will work for you. So, in my opinion, try and test some of these apps and find out which one suits your requirements and then use it to manage your personal finance. All the best!

6 Basic Phases of Software Development Life Cycle

Knowing about the software development life cycle is important for everyone be it the owner of a software company, someone who wants to get software developed or the professionals who create the software. This means, if you are about to be a part of developing a software, then you must know the basics of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Basically, SDLC consists of all the steps/stages of software starting from its inception to its implementation. There are in fact numerous types of SDLC models (Agile, Waterfall et al) and depending upon your requirements you can choose any of them to meet your purpose.

Given below are some phases, which are common in every SDLC model. Let us go through them to get an idea.

Requirement Gathering and Analysis: Requirement gathering and analysis is the first stage of any SDLC model. This phase is basically the brainstorming phase and often consists of sub-stages like Feasibility Analysis to check how much of the idea can be put into action.

If any particular software needs to be modified, the underlying problem(s) of that software is sorted out along with finding ways to solve it. If a brand new software is going to be developed, then every minute requirement regarding that software is looked in to. This implies that this stage involves maximum research and inputs from both the company that is developing the software and the client.

System Analysis: This is the second phase of SDLC where the entire system is defined in detail. In fact, it this stage wherein a detailed blueprint of various processes of the software is developed. If needed the system is divided into smaller parts to make it easier more manageable for the developers, designers, testers, project managers and other professionals who are going to work on the software in the latter stages.

System Design: In this phase, the physical system is designed with the help of the logical design prepared by system analysts. The analysts and designers work together and use certain tools and software to create the overall system design, including the probable output.

Coding: As the name implies, in this stage the software is coded with precision. A team of programmers are assigned by the company to work on the software. More often than not, the work is sub-divided under a sub-phase called Task Allocation, where each developer is assigned a part of the work depending on his or her skill set(s). This helps complete the coding efficiently.

Testing: When the software is ready, it is sent to the testing department where Quality Analysts test it thoroughly for different errors by forming various test cases. They either test the software manually or using automated testing tools and ensure that each and every component of the software works fine. Once the QA makes sure that the software is error-free, it goes to the next stage, which is Implementation.

Implementation: This is the final stage of software development life cycle. In this stage, if the software is run on various systems by users. If it runs smoothly on these systems without any flaw, then it is considered ready to be launched.

To conclude
Now that you know the basics of software development life-cycle  it will help you develop software with utmost perfection in the near future. For more details, you can look up various SDLC models and find the one that will suit your software the most and put it into practice. All the best!
