4 Reasons Why the Android Ice Cream Sandwich Scores Over the iOS
There will also be some people wondering why I haven’t compared the Jelly Bean with the iOS but, the Jelly Bean is just an incremental update and not a newer version. So, the Ice Cream Sandwich it is.
So, let’s get started.
1. Excellent UI
If there is one thing that users appreciate, it is a great UI and there are no doubts in my mind that the new and improved and of course the wholly refined interface offered by the Android 4.0 is way better than the existing iOS interface. In fact, the focus of the ICS is not just on the UI’s visual appeal but also its usability. Take for example its navigation buttons, which are easy to use, giving users the option of 3 primary buttons including ‘Back’, ‘Multitasking’ and ‘Menu’.
It has also made monitoring of the multiple tasks simpler as the screen shots of all running applications will be shown on the screen, this is something that doesn’t happen on the iOS till date.
These are just some of the many reasons why the UI of Android ICS is way better than that of the iOS.
2. The art of Dismissing
I couldn’t resist being a little creative with the subtitle, but the word ‘dismiss’ is very relevant when the usability of the smartphone and its OS is concerned. Think about the countless times you have been frustrated because you can’t dismiss a notification or a task or a browser tab quickly enough so that you can go back to performing the task you wanted to. Well, with the ICS, all you need to do is swipe your finger and the notifications disappear.
3. The widget advantage
Yes, another irritant gets the boot with the ICS and this is widgets that cannot be resized. You can now customize your home screen through interactive widgets; what’s more these widgets are resizable. You don’t really need to launch an app to use them as the widgets will help you do that from the home screen itself. Resizable widgets are something that you will only get on the Android and not on the iOS.
4. Respond quickly to calls
Say you are driving and can’t pick up an important incoming call. Well, don’t fret as you can now do this by responding to it with a text message without even unlocking your Android smartphone. Yes, you can choose from a whole list of text response without making any efforts at all. Great isn’t it and suffice to say, the iOS doesn’t offer you this feature, but it seems this feature will now be available on the soon to be released iOS 6.
So, here they are 4 reasons that make this platform a better bet than the iOS; these are also the reasons for its popularity. Do go through the next part of this article to look at a few more reasons.
