Apple to Challenge Pandora
Pandora has been an authority in online radio. Many smartphone apps have provided services similar to Pandora’s. But, it cannot surpass what Pandora has to offer. Pandora has been a provider of good and new music to its avid users. That’s why Apple is trying to make a similar app like Pandora. Will Apple succeed in “copying” Pandora? Perhaps. Apple is interested in Pandora-like apps because it will enable Apple to expand its market to music lovers and it will open more apps for Apple. With online television down the drain, Apple wants to target Internet radio that will rival Pandora. With the patent-freak Apple is, will they be able to create an infringement free Internet radio? They can.
They will angle their apps for virtual “stations” that play similar music according to their preferences like artist, genre, and year released. They have the option of choosing from either the internet or from their iPhones. Like the traditional radio that we love, it’s for free. However, expect ad banners to be flying around the place.Selling smartphones can be one good way to get an iPhone now.
Apple to push song acquisition copyrights
Maintaining an Internet radio may be hard. You have to buy the songs in order to have them played. Good thing Apple intends to negotiate directly with record labels to acquire the songs and its copyright at a cheaper price. Pandora’s practice of acquiring copyright is expensive. They pay record labels based on levels set by the federal government. It was reported that Pandora can’t achieve a profitable price from it. Apple can offer tons of money but it is speculated that they may offer more than that. If they succeed, iPhone users can play songs multiple times a day. Apple has just started negotiations for this ambitious venture. So, a deal won’t get done until after a few months.
Some observe that Apple might be quite cunning. They made sure that the new service will never be available on any Android or Google phone; with the addition that it “might” play on Windows computers. It will surely play on Apple products, especially iPhones. But, that’s it. Since it will come exclusively on Apple products, many will sell their cell phones online to get the iPhone and enjoy this feature soon.
