Social Media and Its Rise in Online Retail: Infographic
The traffic from social media sites that is being driven to online retail websites is growing at a quicker pace than other channels that refer traffic. The referral traffic for organic search was down by 8% in 2014. The referral traffic for email was also down by 4%. The referral channel that suffered the largest reduction in traffic was paid search which was down by 20% during the same time period.
Close to 2% of all e-commerce website traffic in the United States is being driven by social media – and this includes mobile! In fact, social shopping as a category made significant gains increasing by over a quarter or 26% to be accurate in 2014 when compared to the year previous.
